The Mercer One Room School House was built in 1874 on the property of Joseph Mercer, located on McCleary Road in Greene Township. The one-room school had only a single teacher, who taught grades one through eight. The school was in use until 1953. It remained unoccupied until July 14, 1995. It was then moved to the Hookstown Fair grounds by local residents. The building has been restored and is finished with many of its original items. All of the restorations were done by area residents. The ribbon cutting for the school house took place in August 1998.

The next project was to move and restore the Porter Blacksmith Shop from Ohioville to the village. The building was moved in October of 2000, and dedicated in May 200 1. It has been wonderfidly restored and is another example of a working piece of art.

Monthly planning meetings are conducted on the first Thursday of the month, at 7pm, in the Greene Township Building on Route 168, just west of Hookstown. Come join with us and share our vision for preserving the past and leaving a legacy for our grandchildren.
